Costume MET Gala 2009

One of the biggest nights in Hollywood just happened: The Costume MET Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where every A-lister (or those who consider themselves A-listers) walks the red carpet in accordance to the theme of the night to launch the museum’s new exhibit. It’s the time where designers dig further into their creative minds to dress the celebrities in sometimes outlandish creations. This year was no different, with the theme of the night being ‘Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion’. Here are our picks of who was best dressed, and who was not-so hot on the red carpet.

Best dressed:

anne_hathaway

Anne Hathaway wore a burgundy hued Marc Jacobs satin dress. Her hair’s a little too voluminous for our liking but it plays up the gathers of her dress.

ashley_olsen

Ashley Olsen wears her own back-plunging creation from her label The Row and accessorises with Fred Leighton jewellery

blake_lively

Gossip Girls star Blake Lively is simply hot in this chiffon teal number by Versace. The low front and high slit on her skirt show off her best assets: her chest and her long legs.

claire_danes

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy make a cute couple, with him in a Burberry suit and her in a taupe Armani Prive gown encrusted with Swarovski crystals.

gisele

Newly married Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are a statuesquely amazing pair on the red carpet, with Gisele sparkling in a Christian Dior mini dress matched with peep toe navy booties.

jessica_alba

Jessica Alba has plenty to grin about in this strapless Jason Wu number with crystals and loads of precious jewelery.

jessica_bile

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake step out together formally for the first time and Jessica steals hearts in her Atelier Versace gown with a flowing ruffled train and Fred Leighton jewelery.

kate_hudson

Kate Hudson demonstrates her love for all this sparkly and gold in a Stella McCartney backless dress.

kate_moss

Two of the four chairpersons of the night, Marc Jacobs and one of his muses Kate Moss stand side by side with her in his creation of a one shoulder lame gold mini dress with a dramatic drape. She accessorised her look with platform pumps and a turban of the same shade.

katy_perry

This Tommy Hilfiger gown hugs Katy Perry’s curves perfectly and the bold metal neck piece and bangle suit her Cleopatra hairdo and petite face.

liv_tyler

Liv Tyler, another of Stella McCartney’s muses, donned a sparkling navy blue creation of the designer’s with demure sleeves, a low neckline and high split in the skirt.

marion_cottiard

John Galliano’s muse Marion Cotillard wore Dior from top to toe except for her accessories, which were by Chopard.

rachel_bilson

Famous for her love of simplicity, Rachel Bilson does it again in a chic green Bally ruched mini dress and peep toe heels.

rihanna200

Rihanna stunned everyone when she turned up unexpectedly wearing a Dolce and Gabanna tuxedo with cropped pants.

victoria_beckham

Victoria Beckham loves Marc Jacobs so much that she decided to wear his designs again at this year’s event. Pink provided a background to the black polka dots on this mini dress with a dramatic sash.

What were they thinking?

madonna

Madonna wore Louis Vuitton and accessorised with a weird turquoise headpiece that made her look like a bunny of sorts. The fingerless gloves and thigh-high boots look our of place too.

leighton_meester

We don’t know why Leighton Meester suddenly sprouted bad taste in her choice of clothes especially in this sequinned and patterned eyesore.

mk_olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen frightens us in this lace Victorian number by Christian Lacroix.

Tell us who was your favourite and who you thought dressed the worst.
