Telling apart from what’s the real deal and what’s grade AAA fake is very hard in real life, let alone, seeing pictures of it online which makes it 100 times harder to determine. If it were a real bag from a brick and mortar shop, you would probably look into these few things to spot what’s real and what’s not. Even if its online, try to look out for these things:

  1. Material
Most designer bags are expansive because they are made out of good quality products. Research on the bag’s website and go to the stores to see the real deal, so that you have a clue on how the material’s like. Of course, being online, you only get to see pictures. Even so, ensure that you know the quality you’re paying it for. Request for close up pictures of the bag from the seller.
  2. Stitching & Lining
Good quality bags will not have any bad stitching. If you see any stitching going haywire, it is most probably not the real deal. Some fakes usually glue on their tags and lining, most real designer bags do not just glue, they usually stitch them. Once again, see what’s the real bag like in real life to avoid getting cheated online.
  3. Hardware
Most bags have real hardware as opposed to a light-weight gold plated one. It will be a little heavy when carried. Most fake ones have gold plated hardware which are really easy to spot. Also, most branded bags have their logo usually etched into it.
  4. Logos
Logos or brand names are important to bag designers. They take pride in making sure each logo is perfectly fitted to the design of the bag. Look out for thetag inside. See if its properly done. Sometimes they have hardware plates with their logos on it. One quick tip for LV bags is that the “LV” on that bag, will not be stitched into the button or going halfway to the side. The “LV” on the bags are usually seen and they are very particular in this case.
  5. Packaging
Most designer stores usually package their product properly. It will come wrapped in pretty tissue papers, with ribbons and comes in big  boxes. Anything less than that, is no good, I must say. But of course, you can opt not to have the nice packaging too. This is just one of the things they do.
  6. Price
This is one of the major determinant. If you’re buying a Coach bag for RM100, then it is definitely a fake. Check on the price range of the bag you’re buying. It can be a little cheaper than retail price because some online shop gets them from the USA and shipping and exchange rates may be a little lesser than retail in Malaysia. But for the most bit, it will not go 10 times cheaper. If you want a designer bag, go for the real deal and support the art and the quality of the bag.

Tips for spotting fakes from the real deal online:

  • Get them to get a feedback page from emmagem :) Because we want to see if others have any good or bad experience buying from the shop. After all, the online business is all based on trust. Without that, there would not be any sales.
  • Tips for online shop owners: Build your trust by making sure that you have a feedback avenue.
  • Ask them for a better picture and take loads of pictures. Ask them to take close up pictures of the hardware, lining, stitching and everything else.
  • Make sure you check the official websites stating who are their stockists and official online distributors. Any other ones are definitely fakes.
