A Day at the Mall With My LUMIX G1
By: karenmarie
I was given the opportunity to win a RM2999 interchangeable lens camera last week. So I woke up early in the Saturday morning, put on my camera-girl outfit and headed on to Sunway Pyramid where the Panasonic Revolution ’09 roadshow was held. As I entered the really empty mall I spotted so many concourses filled with Panasonic goodies. The main concourse had this HUGE TV. I tell you it is so huge, we can walk into the TV and go to another world like Spellbinder (Google it up, you young ones!).On another concourse, there were loads of household items and stuff we girls love, the hairdryers and combs. Finally there was this concourse where we’re suppose to meet, had all these cameras and videocams.
As I sat there waiting for the organizers, I saw Audrey and soon after that, Tzia and Shinyeee came. Pam Song came a little later. They were all in the same competition with me. We were there for a bloggers event called “A Day at the Mall With My LUMIX G1″.

Being part of the competition, we were given a jacket to wear and compliment our Panasonic Lumix G1. It is so customized to us that we all had a patch which says “Proud to be a blogger” pasted on the back side of the jacket. Tres Chic!

The awesomely awesome Panasonic Lumix G1 was our companion for that day. When I say awesomely awesome, I really mean it. It is the worlds lightest DSLR camera which has the functions of a DSLR camera, but also simple enough like a compact digital camera for a noob like me to use. Lookie at the beauty:

It comes in blue, black and red. I got to use the red one for the day. It is so pretty and small. See the size comparison with a normal DSLR:

Here’s one picture of me with the camera:

We had a mini tutorial of how the camera works. All 5 of us did not know how to use a DSLR, but this camera has a feature called “Full-time Live View” where you can see a preview of your image before you shoot. As opposed to a really bright LCD lens camera where the picture will turn out to be darker or brighter once you’ve developed it. It also has “iA” mode which is short for Intelligent Auto where it automatically adjusts settings and you can point and shoot as you wish. This “iA” feature is Panasonic’s pride and joy, they also have a mascot for it. Lookie at how cute it is!

Other than that, they have this Optical Image Stabilizer which will detect and compensate your hand shake and of course like any other digital cameras nowadays they have the face detection and other things which make it easier to point-and-shoot. So if your hands move while taking the picture, no problem
The camera also has the normal DSLR settings for the more advanced users. So if you are a pro in all the camera settings, you can play with that and take more awesome photos. The one feature of the camera (well one of the many) we love the most is the adjustable LCD lens which can be twisted 180 degrees horizontally and 270 degrees vertically. Perfect for that cam-whoring moments and also self taken timer pictures on the tripod.

This is Audrey and Shinyeee trying out the interchangeable lens
Here’s a few that we took while the Panasonic guy was teaching us how to use the camera. We can all now check on our hair, our make up and lipstick on the camera lens before taking that picture.

So after a short drilling session on how to use the camera, we were flagged off to do the contest. We were given 15 questions/riddles and we’re supposed to answer the questions by taking photos. Simple? NO! We were only given like half hour to try the camera and omg, I was in such stress.
My first stop was the main concourse where the 150 inch Plasma TV was at. I took a few photos here to answer the questions. My first photo, the KLCC made out of Panasonic bulbs and batteries. Man, it must have took them a few days to build that.

I also took one syok sendiri shot of myself with the tall building of bulbs. OMG, please ignore the oily skin, I was sweating like mad(this was taken after a while)! I had a minor, omg-bimbo moment when I couldn’t find one item in the main concourse.

I was reading through all the small fine prints for a clue. Finally I found it, and it was staring me right in the face (-_-) .It was the TV that I was looking at.

So I had to like take a photo of myself watching the TV. It was so hard for me to take this photo because, the main concourse was packed! People keep on blocking my space and I have so many photos where the timer went out and someone was in the middle (-_-). Next, I had to take a photo of the HUGE 150 inch Plasma TV, the one i mentioned earlier.
My first attempt:

Boring ol shot with some footballers on the TV.

My second attempt, I thought, maybe I could like put like a pretty Panasonic girl there and wala, it looks nicer:)
After that, I went on outside and had to take a photo of the lionhead and pyramid. It was scorching hot and I was about to get a heatstroke. But I went running anyways.

After that short time outside, I ran back inside to the ice rink to cool down.

I was like stalking this lady who was skating gracefully

See, I was really taking pictures of her. This was because she was so graceful. She slided and glided on the ice like a pro skater! I think she found out I was taking her picture and went far far away from me. So I switched my view and took a photo of a family of skaters

After I was done cooling down, I rushed off to the hotel area to take pictures of some animals.

Spot me!

Spot me now!!!
ok, so I’m not in the second picture! I really wonder what are the significance of all these animals in front of the hotel.
Anyways, I made my way back to the Blue Concourse area where they had all those home appliances and Health and Beauty range of items. My task here was to take a photo of me making myself pretty and of me making a juice. I was supposed to drink a juice I made, but the promoter said, “Mana ada buat juice, yang lain semua ambil gambar saje!”. So ambil gambar I did.

Pretending to juice on a Panasonic juicer. My eyes were attracted to the pretty colours of the fruits and took a close up shot of the bowl of fruits.

At the back, the juicers and all sorts of blenders.
I also had to take photo of myself beautifying myself on the makeover station.

This is by far my fave picture because I look happy and my hair is flying:) Thanks to that promoter girl. She was very sweet to help me out with this shot.
Took a short cut and went to Starbucks to get a view shot of Sunway Lagoon.

Finally, I went back to the Orange concourse, the place where we started.

At this area, I had to embarrass myself. My task here was to go into the money chamber right in the middle of everyone and collect money for 5 seconds. It was embarrassing, I tell you.

I managed to grab one RM10, one RM5 ad four RM1′s. I was RM19 richer by the end of the embarrassment. Not bad for a 5 seconds thing. Too bad since we’re in a competition, we could not keep the money. boohoo.

Me with the iA man
One last shot of the camera before the competition ended..

Owh, did I tell you I did not finish the race because, I didn’t receive a Panasonic Bluetooth message. Boohoo. The race ended after 2 hours of walking and walking. We went to a Japanese restaurant for lunch. It was an awesome time for us to mingle and talk about the camera. The girls loved how it was so easy to use.

Once the food came, everyone whipped out their camera and took some food porn

My lunch set, a tempura, sashimi set:)
We went back to the concourse after that and lepaked until the winner was announced. We even had a short 5 minutes of fame in front of the concourse crowd and were interviewed by the emcee for the day. We I mean Pam played with snakes, while we watched her.
After about 15 minutes, the winner was chosen.
Drumrolls!!!!
It was Pam Song!

One last shot with the bloggers and the organizers. Pam, is standing in the middle, smiling with joy.
It was a fun but super tiring day out for us!:)
