Postage dilemma: Pay more or pay less for postage?

Question: Would you rather pay more and get your package earlier or pay less and wait in anxiety for your package?

I’ve been shopping online since 2005 when I first got my bank account and have a little bit more money when I started college (wheee!). When I first started, I was rather skeptical and always would want to COD (Cash on Deposit) rather than go for shipping by local courier service. But, when it got a little harder to COD with people, I opted for postage. At first, I went for normal postage. The seller gave me 2 options. Normal Postage or a courier service. I had bought a couple of lip smackers and lip balms (I really wonder why I bought so many) from someone from Kedah. So I figured, normal postage would suffice.I figured, give it one week tops and it will arrive in KL. After one week, I waited and waited and waited. Seriously, waited and it still did not arrive. There is no way of tracking it because, hey, its not registered. It was a nightmare I tell you. I finally got it after a few weeks. I wonder what had happened on the way.

My second attempt at postage, I was very sure I’d use courier/fast service with tracking, because we can track it and it will confirm-firm be arriving on the next day as I was living in KL. I’d rather pay that extra RM6-RM10 for courier and get my package on time. It has been working well for me, I buy something online, pay the extra shipping charges for courier service and got my package on time :) I was a happy camper…..until now.

I had bought something online. The seller sent out my package using a particular service. It has been a week, but it has not arrived yet! I called them for tracking, they said it will be arriving on Tuesday. It is Friday already and its still not here yet!

How now brown cow? It is a KL to KL shipment and it is taking so long. I guess I must always stress on making sure I get courier for shipping. Because I’s rather pay more than wait in stress (I will keep you posted on whether my item arrived or not!).

Anyways, do you experience these kinda problems too when you shop online? How often do you get frustrated with shopping online and the postage system?

Pleasant or horror, we’d like to hear!

There Are 5 Responses So Far. »

  1. i had mine shipped from Kuching to KL and it didn’t reach me in few weeks… someone sign up for my document, but i have no idea who is that Ahmad Rostam 820808-XX-XXXX… to make long story short, i called the KL post office and seller talk to the post office on her side, she sent me receipt… i still have not get it after more than a month… registered mail is not guarantee. grrr

  2. i guess sometimes it’s also depends on luck. a lot claimed having issues using pos express. for me (touch wood), i have no issues with the postage before. hardly receive any mails/packages later than the expected date.

but sometimes, it’s a bit absurd to be paying RM6 for just 1 small tiny item… :P then again, it also depends on the buyer/seller policy and such.

  3. I have no prblm when its PosLaju but not normal mail.
I’ve sent out a book parcel (Buyer opted for normal mail)
and it took a long 5 weeks bfr it arrived. Whew !!! I was
relieve as I dont my buyer 2 think I hv cheated him plus
it cost me extra $$$ to constantly send him an sms to know
the outcome. So I’ve buying too via PosLaju but so far no
    prblm 4 me.

  4. i’ll always opt for COD if possible. if not, i’ll either go for registered post or pos ekspres to save on postage :P . so far, all pos ekspres package arrive safely for me and my customers as well. registered post i used a few times, only once it didnt arrive. dont even know what happen to it because the seller keep asking me to wait.

but all in all, it really depends on your luck. the more expensive choice will always be the safer choice. :)

  5. As a seller I usually prefer to ship Poslaju. They offer pick up services and delivers within 1 day to Peninsular Malaysia. They have been very few cases of delay and even then, the delay is only another day, so all in all that’s 2 days. Poslaju also offers pick up service so when I want to accomodate buyers who pay last minute, I just call up Poslaju for a pick up instead or rushing madly to the PO only to line up for 45 mins and realise the cut off time for poslaju shipping has passed!

When I personally shop online, I also prefer to pay for Poslaju. Poslaju requires a signature confirmation upon delivery. Pos Express is risky as they can just throw it in your front lawn and anyone can pick it up.
