Day 1 of Stylo Fashion Grand Prix KL ‘09
As you enter Stylo’s 80,000 sq.ft tent, it feels like you’ve entered into another world. The tent was filled with lovely decorations with Indian instrumental music and waiters were dressed in turbans, makes you feel like you’re right there in India. We spotted a few socialites, celebrities and the who’s who of the fashion industry. After a few glasses of cocktails, we were ushered into the fashion marquee where all the magic happens.

The fashion cube is the fashion runway tent where all the shows were held. We were seated at the third row and did not have the best view and angle of photos, so you’d just have to bear with these photos:) British India’s founder and CEO, Pat Liew, promises a night of artistic expression and a full scale performance which includes 100 cast of models, dancers, drummers, hijjras, riders, children and singers.
True to what she said, the show was very grand. The show started with little Indian boys walking down the runway carrying lit candles. Right after that, the show started with British India’s collection of clothes.

Some of the clothes showcased

One part of their scene was where this lady is being pursued by a bunch of male models. Now don’t we all want that? She sashayed down the runway as the boys fought for her attention.

These “horses” were there to sort of like protect the models. They stared at the models as they strutted down the runway. Clothes showcased at this time was the equestrian inspired clothing designed by non other than Pat Liew’s (CEO and founder of British India) daughter.

After that, British India was showing us who they selected as their role models and muses for their clothes this season. British India’s role models were the ones that were chosen to inspire their clothes and other people. The role models include, among others, Chef Wan, Alex Yoong, Sheila Majid, Datuk Jimmy Choo, OBE and other empowering ladies and men of Malaysia.

The last runway show was Briish India’s Islamic Fashion inspired clothing. A full collection of ready to wear clothing which is very much inspired by the Islamic Fashion.
The show ended with a group of Caucasion and Indian children from a school, performing a dance series of songs including the famous “Jai Ho” song by AR Rahman from the hit movie, Slumdog Millionaire. The night did not end there, as it was a Stylo showcase, the night ended with an after party for all the party goers.
