S o, not everyone who won manage to watch the movie. All of us who did go for the movie preview had a blast. At least we at emmagem did
The movie was unexpectedly not so chic flick, but really something your boyfriends would enjoy too. Read the movie summary here. We shall not spill too much of the story for those who did not make it to the movie premier last night.
Playing Rebecca Bloomwood is Isla Fisher, who really portrayed the shopaholic well. She reminds me of a red hair version of Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon) in Legally blonde. She is so ditzy and sort of a bimbo but puts herself well and very well liked by everyone around her, despite her clumsiness. Her best friend, Suze is played by Krysten Ritter, who I really love, personally. She was a true friend to Becky in helping her curb her shopping habits. she even made her go to a Shopaholics Anonymous support group. Her sense of style is really quirky and colourful. And all the ladies in the cinema can agree on this one: Becky’s editor was so hot. Played by Hugh Dancy, Becky’s editor was the editor you would want to have to just look at everyday. He was the one who believed in Becky that she could do well and she did. Also in the movie was Joan Cusack and John Goodman who played Becky’s parents in the movie. Joan Cusack looked particularly old in this movie. But they were Becky’s really thrifty parents who shop for clothes at flea markets for 1 quarter. Such a big difference from Becky right?
Rebecca was a true shopaholic and a rational one at that. She can actually talk herself into buying something that she really does not need. She wants needs to buy all the dresses, shoes, belts, handbags each time she enters a mall or walk pass a store. Somehow mannequins talk to her and talk her into buying things. Like for example a scene from the movie: She was going to an interview for a new job when she already was broke. She walked pass a sign on the store which said “SALE”. Straightaway, she went on in and looked around. Her eyes were fixed on the very green scarf placed on the mannequins plastic neck. It flowed so well that in her imagination, the mannequin danced along with the scarf and asked her to buy the scarf. It was the last piece and she just had to get it. It makes her stand out in the interview and omg, gives her a status like no other.
Things we tell ourselves just because we want to make us feel better and buy that scarf:) Happens to me too and I bet to every other girl who loves to shop:) Becky is a loveable character and in the end it was a happy ending. What is it, I shall not spill. Watch the movie when it comes out next week.
Drool over all the pretty dresses and of course, the hot editor
Here are some screen captures of the movie.

Doesn’t this reminds us of a scene from Legally blonde? The pinkness of it all.

She wanted to work with this magazine editor instead, Allette(left) with the writer who took her fashion spot at the magazine (right).

P.s// (Some of you will sure mention this: the story is so different from the books, the book is way better!!) Yes, I know it is way different from the book. So don’t complain, because this is the adaptation from the book.

funny how they make everyone wear dark colors of black/grey/black tone and Rebecca on something flaringly bright.
Kinda like a Tom Cruise movie where he’s made to look taller than everyone else hu..hu..hu..
I read the book and I guess it’s really different from the book. Book aside, this is a great movie for a girl’s night out. I don’t particularly like her clothes in this movie. Sex & The City has way better fashion.
Miu: Same costume designer mar
Just cannot be the same as SATC of course!!
Some movie reviewers did compare Becky with Carrie. Which is very different lah, I think
can’t wait to watch this. the shopaholic series are my favorite!
Agree with Miu. She just stands out just because of the brightness of her clothes.
Btw they made Luke her editor? No no no, isnt the real Luke had his own PR company or something. They never worked together. No no no.
O wells but I might still will catch the movie though. Just I would love it more if they really follow the books, but that will be impossible eh? ;p
ieja: the movie will never be the same as the book
If they did that, they’d have to make a series of movies! lols
