Beanipet - Handmade Pillows

Crafters in Malaysia are growing into one really awesome community. I am really loving all the creativity and hard work shown. Here’s one really creative girl, Jun Mei. She creates pillows from cloth, wool, sponge and other materials to make a great plush animal buddy. She calls the cute little plush toys BeaniPets. BeaniPet means growing an idea with love and passion like how we treat our pets. She only makes animal BeaniPet because they should be treated like real pets:)

BeaniPets comes in many shapes and sizes. From huge sheep and cats to little Easter egg bunnies, all of her BeaniPets are one of a kind and handmade to perfection. Here are a few previous designs which were already sold mostly to females college students. You cannot get these designs anymore as they are one of a kind and specially made for the owners.

Here’s a mini Q&A Session we had with designer, Jun Mei.

Were you always sewing since you were young?
Nop. I started this hobby since Oct 2008. It’s like totally new and I knew nothing about sewing or using the machine ^ . ^

How did you start?

It all started with an idea of creating something handmade. I’m an artist myself who’s working full time as a lecturer and wanted to do something beside painting or lecturing. So I thought of sewing! So I did some research on where to get a machine then I drove down to kl and bought it. I’ve not operated any sewing machine before and yet crazy enough to just purchase a machine. ^ . ^ Since I’ve bought some cloths and paid for the machine, the next move is to sew~!

What inspires you?
My personal motto is “Be inspired and inspire others”

So things around me are my inspirations. Love. Passion. Life. I’m inspired by life itself thus I want to convert how I feel into my products. I hope to create things that can bring joy, hope and happiness to those who own a BeaniPet.
So I’m always observing things around me, getting inspirations from everywhere such as books, movies, people, visuals and feelings even day dreaming of new ideas, concepts and designs. All I know is when I’m in my BeaniPet zone; I’m very happy, passionate and self driven.

Do you take custom orders, or they are all your own inspiration designs?
I take customized orders example, customers will tell me they want tiger and like the colour pink. Then the designs, ideas and concept are by me. I do tell my customers that I do not copy people’s toy/pillows because if you want me to copy a product why not just buy the product and get over it. What I’m doing is really a blessing because I get to do what I love and people love it! So I only do what comes into my head and if you like my previous products I’m sure you’ll like all my new products too.

When can you start taking orders again?
^ . ^ I’m still taking in orders because some customers just don’t mind waiting and don’t mind the long queue. So far I’ve got 20 pillows in line and it keeps coming in… So I’m really glad that all my customers don’t mind waiting and I don’t wish to rush my products too because I’m aiming for quality not quantity.
