It’s tough looking too cool for school when the sun’s out and all you just want to do is to go out in your pretty summer dresses. You could even opt for the ’70s sun-lounger siren look – almost sexy for a dip in the pool – with the guide of some of the latest trends including popping colours on lips and bronzers. Having said that, you shouldn’t also take for granted your skin when you go out under the sun, especially without any sun protection. Here’s how you should look gorgeous.

Summer lips

Dress your pout with delicious, juicy pink, orange and red hues that promise to make your tan zing.

How to wear juicy colours?

Don’t doll up eyes but…

Do smudge on a sheer, sophiscated colour that’s not too dark

Do flush cheeks with a rosy glow (read: blushers)

Do kissability with a dab of clear gloss but…

Don’t do mega-shine!

Bronzers

Bronzers are the next best thing to getting that gorgeous tan without having to bake under the sun!

How to wear bronzers?

To highlight your beautiful cheeks, squeeze a small amount on to your fingertips and lightly smooth on. Also, you may like to highlight other key areas like the bridge of your nose, decolletage and forehead for that extra natural glow. Just always remember the key rule: blend, blend, blend! The trick here is always use less.If you don’t know how much you need to start with, start with a dime-size dollop; you can always build a darker tan later. Powder-based formula are much easier when it comes to blending as compared to cream; you may want to look out for that.

Sun care

Premature skin ageing happens in the long run and we least expect of it since the results show up on our faces much later: pigmentation, brown spots, freckles and lines. Always be sure to apply products with sun protection factor (SPF) and try to avoid the time between 10am to 2pm, especially at 12noon when the sun is the most strongest.

How to wear sun care?

Fairly simple. Just before you step out under the sun, apply sunscreen and use makeup that protects and moisturise. Equip yourself with lip balms and facial mists for extra soothing measures but makeup nowadays also contain SPF. Check out foundations with SPF; the formula may be different as compared to normal foundations (the texture feels more ‘wet’ as it contains SPF) but you’ll be doing your skin a good deed by protecting it harsh sun rays and external pollutants.
