Acca Kappa- Hairbrush at RM180
By: yetmee
You know , our head of hair is our crowning glory right? I mean , RM300 a pop for a session every 3 weeks with hair stylist versus one hairbrush RM180 which by the way lasts about 10 years (without any abuse that is) sounds quite economical when you actually do the maths as I am right now. Besides you get to fall in love with your hair all over again every time you brush your hair. I remember when I was very young all the Barbara Cartland books talk about heroines who brush their hair a hundred times every morning and night to get it all shiny and smooth. These days, whose got the time , but with these brushes you actually feel like you never want to stop ,really!
When I first heard about these hair brushes ( I actually popped by boutique at One Utama cause I read about their skincare range), I actually “bristled” at the audacity of the price but then I sampled what it’s like to actually have one brush my tousled mane and I must say I am quite impressed. At their stores at One Utama (1st floor new wing next to Nike and Nandos ) , KLCC (1st floor right above Versace , next to Max Mara boutique) , a kiosk at Pavilion Bukit Bintang and Midvalley at the Che Che handbag store (stores info courttesy of phone call to their customer care line) , they actually sanitized their hair brushes with UV rays at least at One Utama), so that customers can quite “safely” try them. So I was quite okay about that except it occurred to me much later alas, if perhaps UV rays doesn’t quite work on dandruff…but no fear, false alarm.
A bit of history; brand started in 1869 by H. Krull and C. they manufacture fine quality bath and beauty products under brand name Acca Kappa. They have three basic principles ; Acca Kappa is dedicated to respecting and maintaining environmental consciousness throughout the entire process from testing (no testing on animals ) , manufacturing and final finishing. And so, they began with only producing hair brushes including brushes for horse hair (yes we are in esteemed company) . They use (very nice looking and sturdy wood like kotibe wood or wenge wood from East Africa or beech wood for the handles.
The hairbrushes are designed with the professional use in mind. So using one brush can give a soft shiny look ( but just for one day, it gets intensely oily the next day) whilst another is like a soft gentle massage on your scalp and actually reduces hair drop(pneumatic brush) as there is less drag and gives hair volume and yet another (thermo natura) is designed for frizzy or coloured hair that actually manages to promote healthy hydrated hair… sounds like another quick promise , maybe. But I must say I am writing this article because I was quite sold by the hairbrush ( the Pneumatic hairbrush with boar bristles, 12cm at RM180) that I tried which massaged my scalp and till now as I write I am still feeling that relaxing tingle on my scalp…
But I don’t know , everyone is talking about saving money these days , would you spend RM 180 on a hairbrush that leaves your scalp giddily tingly but very healthy or is it just an abominable luxury? We are talking about long term healthy scalp and haircare versus immediate vanity after all.
