Slithery success

Spring is right around the corner but these stylish people on the streets are just crazy about layers and accessorizing with the coolest reptile patterned or skin accessories. We can all do the same with our warmer weather over here, and reptile printed items like clutches, shoes and even snake motif bracelets look hot paired with solid shade clothing. If you’re unsure about where to start, a bangle with a snakeskin motif is a good way to start before branching out to even a printed dress! Truth is, since natural-looking snakeskin is so neutral toned, it’s pretty safe to wear. Remember to keep the rest of your outfit simple – like for example, if you use a python print chiffon shift, cinch with a thick brown belt and you can match with khaki coloured heels and you’ll be ready to slink your way out the door for your next party!

The print is a little strong to be worn for work, so keep it to your shoes, like for example, a pair of mock croc pumps with your skirt suit. Instantly, you look a little wilder and that much trendier!

Here are some ways of wearing your reptile-inspired items.

This girl is wearing several layers of knits including an extra-long cardigan but note the legs where one leg is stocking-clad and the other isn’t. It takes confidence to pull off something like that (though it’s not exactly loud) but what we’ve noticed is that she’s carrying an awesome chocolate coloured reptile print clutch that stands out from her outfit of grey, navy and black.

The soft, oversized mock-croc clutch in grey matches her grey folded booties and her entire outfit is a play of textures – see the printed scarf, layers of chains around her neck and her woolen beret? The look is pulled together with the dark maroon tights and grey knee-length skirt. Ultra chic, we say.

The ultimate in chic here is the all-black outfit cinched with a black sash and the fact that she clashes her casual bag with her shoes. There’s no need to match your shoes to your bag anymore – in this case, the subtle all-over checks on the bag go together with the python print of her peep toe booties. When in doubt, use shades like black or white as a base for your wild print.

We can just see these black suede booties with a gold snakeskin lining on a party girl’s feet! They’re totally rock-and-roll gorgeous and would look fantastic with some skinny black cigarette pants, a vintage tee with a rock print and a gold clutch.

These super-high heels from gojane.com are daring and sexy all at once and would look perfect with a pair of white cropped pants that end just below the knee and an olive green camisole. Throw on a brown vest or jacket, and you’ll be all set in earthy tones.

This Juicy Couture watch is a safe piece to try on if you’re skeptical about wearing such wild patterns. The watch face is classic and contrasts with the rest of the sexy print.

This Michael Kors clutch with a cute bow is edgy, yet pretty in this sweet, earthy colour. Carry this with a bright hued dress in red, fuchsia or even sunny yellow and think of strappy gold sandals to go with it.

Wearing this Rory B dress ensures you get all the attention so ensure that the rest of your outfit is pared down. Black accessories are great, but stay away from necklaces because of the boatneck neckline and the print of the dress. Too much and it will look completely cluttered.

urban-outfitters-snakeskin-wrap-belt

This Urban Outfitters snake belt is a great accessory for work or play. Wrap this around your jacket or through the belt loop of your jeans. You can free free to dress down with this piece as it already adds a touch of luxury to your outfit.
