Did you know that according to the Euromonitor 2007, eye make up channels, Lancôme is the no 1 brand worldwide? Well, I certainly didn’t. I just use a brand that I like and stick to it. But after having attended the preview of their latest product ,Ôscillation, the micro-oscillating powermascara and having been introduced to their history in mascaras, I am a discerning and aware user. I mean before this technology for mascaras hadn’t been a priority. What was most important was that it doesn’t smudge  and  really be smudge proof if it is waterproof. So having attended this mini event with loads of delicious  desserts and hor d’ouvres from Zang Toi, I am  awakened or rather my lashes will be.

Ôscillation ( means move to and fro according to the Oxford Dictionary) is a revolutionary lash make up with the 1st powermascara  using micro oscillation. This multi-patented mascara has  an avant garde eco friendly polymer based brush  that has been designed to optimize the vibration and texture of the powermascara. There is a miniaturized motor (3cm) on the brush which vibrates as you push against it during application. The mascara also is encased in a black lacquer  case with the gold stamped of the rose emblem on it. The formula is from an exclusive  innovation: UFD (Ultrafine Dispersion technology) which is more fluid and supple to glide easily over lashes. This is the new luxury of mascara standards and it is priced accordingly at RM120 a piece which is slightly higher than the rest of their current mascaras and similar to some premium brands in the market.

Concerns addressed:

1. No leakages due to accidental push of the activator. Yes, you can control the application. So no fears of runaway mascaras brushes.
2. Yes, can be used for all types of lashes.
3. No overloading of mascara as control is at the push of the activator to activate motor.
4. Battery lasts for 180 applications.

Best way to use it:

1. Place brush at the base of lash and push the activator and hold for a while, then “push” it upwards  to the tip. Key word here is push.
2. Use once for day and twice or more for a more dramatic evening look.

A thorough coating of all the lashes. You see, this is my take on it, micro-oscillation works like a giant rake, raking up all the lashes and coating every piece of lash on your lid even the most hidden so that lashes look fuller and longer. According to Zamri Zainol (Lancôme’s National Make-Up artist),  it has same effect as when you  perm your lashes ( good news for the not so brave hearted). Every lash will get a 360 degree coat of pure finish  mascara with no clumping.

Lash Trivia

• Lashes can be measured with a lash measuring ruler. The perfect angle of lashes is 120 degrees and perfect length should be anything betwen 5 and 6cm (who set this standard, I have no idea)

Mine is only 90 degrees and about 5cm, average . Okay , story of my life.

With Ôscillation, my lashes went up to110 degrees and I found that my lashes  elongated to about 6cm, very curly (yeah on the way to super lash-dom).  And for girls with long lashes, the effect is very, very  sensuous because the multiplying effect becomes very obvious.

For your information, there are also types of lashes , varying short; short and varying ; long , long and sparse  or long and thick, and I personally think no one has perfect lashes until they mascara. That is why there are different types of lengthening and thickening mascaras, duh. I finally found out that my lashes are varied and sparse. I mean whenever I go to buy a mascara , I am asked what I want, well I want to lengthen , who doesn’t , right. But at Lancôme you will be given a consultation as to which type of lashes you really have and  which one suits you best. So whilst Ôscillation coats every lash and allows you to get the full effect of lengthening volume, you may get better results with volume from Cils Dual End which addresses both issues ( coming soon).

Ôscillation is also great for beginners  as it is fast and simple and easy to apply even for the lower lash

Tips from Zamri on mascara application:

• When smudges occur don’t panic, give it a minute and then brush off with Qtip, works like wonders.
• When applying , don’t brush like a hair brush, instead PUSH from the bottom of lash and hold for a moment before going all the way up to the tip of lash. You will get much curlier lashes.
• Replace mascara every three months for hygienic reasons and also for easy application.

There is a pre-order going on right now at Suria KLCC’s Lancôme counter at Isetan. You can be one of the first few (ONLY 400 pieces available for Malaysia this time around) to try on this awesome mascara by getting on the list. All you have to do is call Lancôme’s counter at Isetan, KLCC (Number: 03-2382 0281).

After ordering, you will have to collect it at the Ôscillation Exclusive Launch between 4-10 February 2009 at Concourse, Ground Floor, Suria KLCC.
