Think Spring
By: thebeautywriter
Say goodbye to big eyebrows and bright red lips for Spring season is here today!
The look for Spring this 2009 include soft smokey eye look, romantic pastels and a sweet dose of shimmer cream for the cheeks. To look sweet this season, do away with heavy colours like dark metallics and purples. The key look is looking fresh and natural (without looking like you tried so hard) and the one area you may like to emphasis is your eyes for they are the windows to your soul.

To play up your eyes, makeup is softer with a dash of ethereal sense of fantasy thrown in (think pretty fairies). That is when soft pastel colour comes in, and nearly every major makeup line including Shu Uemura and Lunasol have been promoting lilac colour to create a soft, smokey eye look that compliments every skin tone. You can pull off lilac eyeshadow with a hint of white or silvery eyeliner for a doe-eyed effect. Pair this look with neutral lips (read: light lip gloss) and a soft pink shade for the cheeks and you’ll be ready for some Spring love. If you need a little boost, false eyelashes can accentuate your eyes further as seen on virtually all runway shows during the Spring 2009 fashion shows in New York. During Chanel’s fashion show, models worked the runway with lilac eyeshadow.
To apply romantic pastel shades is fairly simple. Pastel shades with blue undertones like lilacs, baby blues and greens work best on fair to olive skin. Apply brown or brown-black eyeliner and a matching shade of mascara to complement the look. Bright pastel blues and pastel greens do well if you have dark skin as the colours will make your eyes “pop”. If you want the colour to last longer and appear “truer”, always use an eyeshadow base before you apply your chosen pastel colour.
The trick here is to blend, blend, blend.
Apply the chosen deeper shade of eyeshadow over your lids, and making sure you blend the colour towards the corner of your eye (where it meets your cheek). Then, using a slightly shimmery lighter pastel colour, blend over the eyelids upwards. The trick here is to look like you’ve achieved a smooth colour that overlaps and not having eyelids with two distinctive colours (it’s not the circus). Make sure you examine both eyes in the mirror to make sure they appear equal. Voila, spring is in your step!
