Geek Chic – Love it or hate it?
By: karenmarie
Some of us aren’t born with a 20/20 perfect vision, sadly. So we do have to wear glasses for seeing and reading. But nowadays, you can see people with 20/20 vision wearing glasses proudly. This geek chic trend started a while ago, when everyone thought geek was the new pink. Steve Urkel would be proud of this trend. I think, its either you love it or you hate it!
The Geek Glasses!
Mary Kate and Ashley wore them way back then in 2005 during fashion weeks and on the red carpet. Then, this trend started to take off earlier last year when designers started to put them on models on the runway. The models were seen wearing them
A while ago, someone asked us where to get a geek glasses. Everyone started adopting this geek chic trend.
I personally think, not everyone can pull this trend off. But some people really can wear these geek glasses and look awesome. For example, we featured a truly vintage fashionista, (who even sells vintage clothes) Gabby on KL in the Raw wearing a geeky glasses which she specially made to be used as her real glasses.
Doesn’t she look awesome in the glasses? It totally gels with the whole look.
Wearing a geek glasses that suits your face.
Not everyone can pull off this look. Each person’s face shape is different and of course, we have to buy a glasses shape that would look good on us. For example, if you have really small petite face, you could look drowned by a huge glasses. Always try and see what suits you best before making a purchase. Don’t just be a slave to the trend and simply wear something that doesn’t suit your face.
See which geek frame would suit your face shape by reading this trend report from Glamour:
Excerpt from the article:If your face is heart-shaped
Show off your seductive, feline side. “A cute cat-eye shape is always considered a very feminine look,” says Sacher. “This ‘sexy secretary’ shape creates lift to the face.”
Read more about it here.
Where to get geek glasses?

Your local glasses shop/optician shops or large optical chain such as England Optical will have a variety of glasses frames for you to choose from. You can also add your own personal eye power on the lens so that you can actually use the geek glasses as your own like Gabby did.
Alternately, Glampot are selling them online for RM25 each.
How to wear them and pull of the geek chic look?
Polyvore enthusiasts have already styled this trend with other clothes and accessories. See a few below:
