New Year’s Eve is THE time to dress to the nines and be seen at the choicest places in town! So don your favourite fedora (those party hats are so passé!) , grab your gaggle of girlfriends and strut over to these not-to-be-missed places to wine, dine or party. Be it for the ambience, the quality of grub or the irresistible dance floor, they each offer a unique experience for an unforgettable New Year celebration.
Where to eat?
Café Café, KL
Brace yourself to be completely transported from the dodgy streets of KL to this lavish, splendorous French fantasy. Glittering crystals hang against the backdrop of rich velvet curtains , reflecting the light off opulent chandeliers and candles. Antique lamps and lush centerpieces look like they came right off the set of Moulin Rouge. “Who says flamboyance can’t be simple?” the designer must’ve thought. “Why must chic be minimalist?”

Inside Cafe Cafe-Opulent and decadent, yet pristine
The price is expected of a fine dining establishment, and in certain instances not justified, as the food may pale in comparison to the stunning décor. Recommended favourites include the traditional foie gras (goose liver), buttery escargots doused in garlic sauce, the well-browned and crisp duck confit, and tender wagyu beef cheek. Finish by polishing off one of their specialties: tiramisu with creamy Italian mascarpone cheese and a dash of strong French brandy.

Boathouse, TTDI
Nestled in a discreet part of TTDI is the quaint and cozy Boathouse restaurant. Upon entering, one gets a sense of warmth and belonging and everything reminiscent of home. Perhaps this is also because the place is dog friendly, so expect to see a pooch or two!

Cozy, home-y atmosphere
Boathouse has an extensive menu that explores Western dishes and local favourites alike. Frankly, you’ll be spoilt for choice and a common remark made by customers is, “We’ll come back next time to try more” upon salivating over the menu. Must-tries include the tasty Grilled Portobello Mushroom, seasonal Cempedak Chicken, succulent Oven Roasted Rack of Lamb and the watermelon margarita (ask for no salt!) to wash one of them down. Desserts are exquisite, especially the freshly-prepared ones – definitely worth the wait if you have a sweet tooth.

Where to party?
Club Quattro
This club has been gaining notoriety with its novel concept of having 4 seasons in Malaysia – in the form of the Spring Lounge, Summer Restaurant, Autumn Club and Winter Bar. It’s the first of its kind in Malaysia (and apparently, in the world), and is certainly worth a try for that reason alone. Each venue will take after the season accordingly, going as far as to ‘rain’ in the Spring Lounge’s walkway and ‘snow’ at the Winter Bar.
For New Year’s Eve, Quattro’s set to rock your world with party promotions. For one, enjoy the buffet and magnificent view of the Petronas Twin Towers in the Summer Restaurant, and you’ll get free access to all the other venues. Or clink a toast to the New Year when you pop 2 bottles of Moet for RM618 with free entry for 8 of your closest friends.
Cover charge: RM48 (ladies), RM68 (gents).

Euphoria
If you choose to parta-yy at Euphoria by the Ministry of Sound, the good news is that your perfectly tousled hair won’t stink of smoke for the next 2 days. That is, if you don’t venture into their designated smoking areas!
Euphoria has a unique circular construct, accommodating up to 1,500 people on 3 levels. The 3 main venues are the main dance area with its well-known vibrating dance floor, The Deq which is more chill out, and Mezzanine with glass-walled private suites. It feels spacious even on a full-house; if not you can always take a breather by hanging out on the see-through bridge (though this is not an option if you’re wearing a skirt!).
One thing to note about Euphoria is that the house music is awesome.
You can be sure that Euphoria’s not to be outdone by other clubs on New Year’s Eve. A Masquerade Ball is the theme of the night – dramatic outfits and masks, anyone? Resident DJs Victor G and Patrick Oliver will heat up the main area, while DJ Nesh will spin in The Deq.
Partying here is on the pricey side as usual, with 1 bottle of Chivas/Absolut/whatever going for RM400++ (with 4 friends). If you forgo opening one, then cover charge is RM120 (with 2 complementary drinks). To inquire or book a table, call Ms. Michelle at 012-9855266.
