Tis’ time for the party season again and you must all be wondering what in the world you should wear for the next 5 parties (including the big NYE one!), so here are some suggestions that might help when choosing the right dress. Fear not if you are on the tall, straight up-and-down type or are so tiny that people constantly refer to you as ‘cute’. There’s no need to worry if your lower half is (a tiny bit) wider than your upper half or if you are pretty curvy all around – here are dresses that are guaranteed to fit and flatter and make you the life of the party!
If you are curvy:

Urban outfitters has a black lace dress with sleeves so if you’re looking to hide your arms because you’re self-conscious, this is a good type of dress to own. Peek-a-boo panels tease by showing some skin and hiding at the same time, and if you are top-heavy, this dress won’t empasise your chest area, but more of your decolletage. A nipped-in waist defines the curves that you have.

A form-fitting silhouette is good for emphasising your curves (wear it proud!) and this Black Halo dress which looks like a top and skirt and is especially great if you wear body-shaping underwear to nip in any lumps and bumps. The just-below-the -knee length of the skirt shows off your shapely calves, and if you pair this with the highest, strappiest stilettoes you have, this will lengthen the line of the leg. The interesting cap sleeve detail on the top also draws attention to the shoulders and balances out the hips. It can even do double duty – as an office-friendly dress matched with pumps and a structured tote and for the bar if you throw in a clutch and dangling earrings to the mix.

This cute royal blue Urban Outfitters mini dress is a daring choice but if you feel concious about your legs, you can always wear black matte tights under this and a pair of black patent booties to minimise the attention to your limbs. Everyone will be taking notice of the back of this little number anyway – check out the cascading ruffle at the back! It’s a perfect, flirty touch to a simple dress. Since this is meant to be worn on the loose side, you won’t have to worry about it clinging to anywhere you don’t want and it’s comfortable to fit in a few extra cocktails and canapes!

A flattering dress in a vibrant colour is the perfect way to party and this shift dress with a sheer black panel and matching waistband as a belt makes you ready for what the night will bring in an instant. While it is modest enough and exposes only the arms and calves, the pretty pink is feminine and eye-catching. Who says you need to bare lots of skin in order to get noticed?
If you are petite:

Fitting is good to draw attention to what curves you have up top and bottom and the cutout back of this Black Halo number is super-sexy and enhances your upper half. Don’t forget to wear your best convertible bra! Match this with striking red shoes and a clutch with a smoky grey eye.

Prints are fun on any dress and while this Catherine Maladrino dress can be worn casually with some jewelled sandals, this looks great for a dinner party with chunky bangles and chocolate gladiator heels. The sporty silhouette is flattering on any shoulder shape (wide or petite) and the swirling print detracts from the hips.

If you are happier about showing less skin, this teal boatneck ruffled dress is handy in widening shoulders and minimising hips.A gathered waist gives a curvier, hourglass shape and the ruffles add that much of a difference to an otherwise very simple dress. This colour will flatter anyone with fair skin and looks best with metallic accessories like a silver peep-toe heel or even a stack of gold bangles and a bag.

All-over folds in satin will definitely add shape overall to your body so this is best if you are tiny and slim. You can also try cinching this in with a belt if you are after a more defined shape, but wearing it loose like the model in the picture is trendier and the folds of the dress aren’t restricted by a belt.
If you are lanky and boyish:

A convertible dress (this can be worn as a halter or one-shouldered dress) is convenient and saves you looking like you wore the same dress twice because you can wear it in different ways! The liquid silver is great for very tall, slim girls with not much of a shape as the ruching in the middle defines and gives you more curves than you’ve got. Needless to say, the short hemline will emphasise the legs. With all these details going on, it’s best to keep jewellery non-existent, and instead, wear black shoes and carry a black bag. Do not try silver accessories with this dress unless you want to look like a skimpily-clad astronaut.

Tiered ruffles in a bold print add more dimension to a straighter silhouette and shows some shoulder and a bit of leg too. An asymetrical hemline is funky and will draw attention to those long pins of yours, so ensure your shoes and legs are up to par! Some shimmer powder mixed in with your moisturizer will give them a glow and try to choose a more covered, structured shoe – like pumps or peep-toes.

This cute floaty frock in a cheery vibrant pink reminds me of a popsicle and is certainly good enough to eat! Rather than opting for something that’s really fitted, a loose-fitting shift can also be very sexy because of its carefree vibe. Pair this with loose curls, a dab of glitter on the eyelids and some nude lip gloss followed by outrageous zebra-printed stilettos.

For those who are not afraid to stand out in a crowd, try a metallic bronze shift like this Urban Outfitters one. The sparkle will accentuate your slim figure and the loose fit allows for movement. Plus there’s no need for jewellery with a dress this flashy. Just stick to nude tones when it comes to your bag and shoes.
If you are hip-heavy:

The sparkle on the back of this dress makes a party outfit even more special. While it accentuates the back, the front is low-cut to draw the eyes up towards your decolletage. The gentle pleats on the skirt allow for plenty of hip room so there’s no focusing on the part that you want to hide the most. If your concern is heavier thighs, the knee-length hem of the dress does well to hide it. Add some sparkling diamante bracelets to your wrist or a large cocktail ring.

This classic shape draws attention to your upper body by encasing it in satin, while the bustier-like top lifts and defines your bustline. The floaty skirt will camouflage your bottom and the result is a balanced silhouette. Wear a detailed waterfall silver necklace like a collar around your neck and you will shine like a star in any room.

This dres has an almost tribal feel to it (probably because of the colour and the pattern on the bust) and its unique cut is especially flattering to your lower half. While the draping conceals any tummy, the split of the skirt focuses attention on your legs while hiding the hips. Go for bronze-y accessories like cool disc earrings when wearing it to celebrate the new year.

A sweetheart-like bust is flattering for any smaller chest and the subtle ruffles add a little more oomph where it is needed. Because the skirt is almost structured in a stiff cotton, there is minimal movement to the skirt, therefore discouraging the material from clinging to your lower half. Plus, the sweet violet colour makes this dress suitable even for a daytime garden wedding. For a touch of drama, wear this with a feathered headband or fascinator and go for solid colours for the rest of your look.
