Zip ‘em up you stud

By: Cherrypop

We probably all associate zippers and studs with leather and bikers in leather pants and jackets but these days the toothy detail is on plenty of shoes, bags and of course, jackets for that touch of punk/rock. No longer are the jackets over sized and worn with perms and/or faded jeans (unless you really want to, skinny is the only way to go), but they are trendier versions cropped and enhanced with zipper pockets. You can also find skirts and dresses with zips and belts with studs but depending on how you wear them, they can come across as rocker or just plain radical. Here are a couple of examples of people spotted in items with zippers and silver studs.

This outfit consisting of cool flat studded boots and a heavily studded bag to match is made wearable in a more casual way when a long t-shirt and leggings are paired with it. The trench coat and knit cap makes a nice finishing touch that ensure the look is ‘styled’ without looking punk.

Zipper heels crisscrossed at the feet make an all-black outfit look incredibly chic and edgy. With the zips being the only detail, a plain outfit is immediately transformed into something classy and yet hints at a dash of attitude. The zippers will draw attention to those legs, so make sure you are worthy of the spotlight on your limbs by slathering on more moisturizer to keep the skin of your legs smooth and hydrated.

A 90s blazer with rolled up sleeves that everyone’s been going crazy over is thrown over a short zipper dress, merging 80s and 90s styles that make it very 2008. The popular ‘nerd’ frames counteract the outfit, making an otherwise what would have been rock a star into something almost naive yet alternative.

Celebrities have been spotted out with the cutest dress and accessories and definitely were no shrinking violets. Kate Hudson, in a glorious blue dress had a zip running down to the back and cheekily showed it off when posing for photographers. Model Lily Donaldson was recently spotted in a black miniskirt with zippers and wearing a white Grecian style top and black tights which made her sexy although minimal flesh was exposed. You can try a slightly different look by wearing a T-shirt paired with the skirt and ankle boots for a more casual, yet put-together outfit.

Some products with zippers which were scouted from various online websites will give your outfit a hint of punk and are very much wearable.

This Charlotte Ronson zipper dress is great for work when paired with a pair of pumps and a smart patent bag but can be worn out for a party if you match coloured tights and the highest pair of booties you can find. It’s also great worn open like a jacket over a tank top and jeans.

For a difference in a pair of jeans, J Brand offers jeans with an ankle zipper on each side. This works with a studded belt and a lacy camisole to offset a girlie piece or you can wear a blazer cinched with a belt and nothing underneath for a wild night out.

This Marc by Marc Jacobs bag makes a roomy addition to your wardrobe and can even be taken out for dinner and drinks with the girls because of its leather texture and glamorous black studs. On casual weekends this can be paired with a floral dress and gladiator sandals to mix up the feminine and rock looks a little.

A daytime, wearable take on the studded look is in the form of this Lauren Moffatt dress with subtle grey stripes and a vertical red stripe running down the middle decorated with sparing white studs. If you’re not into the punk look, this is the perfect dress as it incorporates the punk detail but in the light colours that are casual and breezy. If you ever have to go to a barbeque, this is an ideal look to put together with a pair of thongs on your feet.
