Vintage fever
By: Miss Vintage
This topic has been blogged about before very recently but vintage fever is still raging up until now and there are more and more blogshops selling vintage goodies, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do another post on this latest craze in town.
One very good reason why vintage-lovers are, well, vintage-lovers, is that they feel that these granny chic pieces are definitely one-of-a-kind and the chances of seeing a similar dress on another girl is close to impossible. It gives them an outlet to show their identity and personality, by wearing the vintage beauties according to their own unique style.
That said, however, that is probably also a reason why some choose to not wear vintage. Simply because they’re not sure how to wear it and they’re not sure if they look good in it.
But the good news now is, vintage is no longer worn as it is. Every piece can be mixed-and-matched with modern clothing to create a really stylish, unique, and maybe even whimsical fun look!
Here are some looks you can create.
Vintage dresses are the most popular oldies garments right now, so let’s see how you can play around with them.
The oldest trick in the box is to add a playful belt, especially since many vintage dresses come with a bigger, flowy cutting. If the hemline is too long, just yank up the skirt at the waist and cinch with a belt.
Layering is big now, so it’s really kinda fun to pile on your clothes, but in a tasteful way, of course.
Another crowd pleasure is the sweet vintage blouses. Take your cue from The Old Blossom Box, and even the most simple shirt can be jazzed up really funky with accessories like an oversized bow and cute hairband.

This online shop always sells out reeaaalllly fast, so you literally gotta stand by your computer!
Or if you like a more edgy look (’cause sometimes we get tired of being all girly and sweet, heh heh) then this is very cool way to wear them togs.
Throw on an oversized shirt, like the currently oh-so-popular bf shirts, roll up the sleeves, wear them with high-waist shorts, add belt, add sunnies, add anything you damn like!
Like seriously, like the girls from this site. (They’ve still got a few pieces left so hurry on over!)

Speaking of oversized, you cannot not have an oversized blazer in your vintage wardrobe. This is a very versatile item ’cause you’re not restricted to just stuffy work wear.
The folks at Muff+Stit work it, yeahh!
Now, on to the skirts. High-waist skirts are making such a huge comeback that I really find it difficult to predict whether and when this trend will phase out. But whatever it is, it definitely adds loadsa plus points for the vintage looks, ’cause back then people hardly wore their skirts and pants at the hips.
Blossoms on my Bottom, floral skirt from White Lace And Promises, such a steal too at RM25!
If you want to stand out in a crowd, wear a tulle skirt underneath to make it poofy! And hey, this is a great trick to give you a shapelier figure.
Like the blogshop featured just few days ago, Paperdoll. (Not vintage, but just a visual example)
So bottomline, what this post is trying to convey, is that when it comes to vintage you really can’t judge a book by its cover. Or a dress by its prints. Haha. Some clothes might look a little strange or way different from what you’d usually go for, but if you actually try it on or visualize different ways of wearing them, then heck, you just may be the new chick on the block.
See, here are some stuff you might never imagine yourself wearing, but these girls pull it off really well, so if you don’t try, you’ll never know!

Knit sweater from Sally Jane Vintage

Drape-y black dress from Bamboo Stereo

Silver slouchy jacket from The Shoplifters. Their name might sound like you get clothes for free from them, but no, you pay a decent amount to win a bid for their lovely vintage and modern wears.
Now that we’re done with the vintage tutorial (haha), tell us!
Do you think the vintage craze is just a fad, or will it stay around for some time? How long do you think it will last?
Afterall, these are stuff our grandmothers wore decades ago and yet they’re being loved by us decades later! That means they’ve lasted for years and years and are still considered stylish.
What do you think?
