Viva Flea Market @ Monash

By: Sharyl

On Monday and yesterday, the Viva Fashion Club at Monash University Sunway organized a flea market sale. It is only open to the Monash students (lucky ‘em!), from 11am to 5p.m on both days. It was the first flea market held in Monash campus. From clothes to bags to accessories to soft toys, there were so many variety of items sold there.

I arrived at Monash during the lunch hour. It was quite a distance walking from the car park but the flea market’s selections made it very well worth the walk. The vendors were all located near the entrance where most students walk past before and after their classes. There were 18 vendors altogether there selling their stuffs. Each vendor was given a board to decorate their booths with and to put up their booths’ name!

The vendors that participated were Stitch Project, Bling2Bling, Dolly Sins, Glampot, My Favouritees, Etoffe Boutique, ButtonMyButtons, KolorKulture/PushSkateShop, Ms RedCube, Hugs & Jellyfishes, LOL Tees!,HandMadeTinyThoughts, MyClosetGiggles, Gin & Jacqie, Stepz Creation, Cherry PomPom, NinaKimi and Kemi’s Stall (Most of the shops are listed on our MOFSD, click here).

The crowd started coming in between 2p.m to 3ish. That is when most classes ends. Only after browsing through, I found out, that in order to purchase the items, you’d need to buy the coupons sold at the coupon booth. Meaning, I’ve gotta start over again! Lolz.

The coupons came in RM10, RM 20 and RM50. I gathered from the organizer, that the flea market is a fund raising event for an upcoming fashion show. The funds collected from the flea market will be used for the fashion show. And the proceeds made from the fashion show will then be donated to SUHAKAM for charity purposes.

I saw many familiar faces. The vendors I mean. One, is because they are listed on Emmagem’s Online Fashion Directory. Two, is because they are always around to sell their items at flea markets! I felt quite at home around them. They are a bunch of friendly people that makes shopping transactions way much easier.

I had a lovely time there. In fact, I was there again the next day (Tuesday). Kudos to the Viva Fashion Club for organizing such of an event for us, shopaholics!
