How to wear boots?

booties2booties

I really love boots and I just think that wearing boots really jazzes up an outfit and gives  a sense of unexpectedness to it, be it a simple shift dress or even a mix match of knee length skirt with high boots. There is of course the weather constraint if wearing in Malaysia , but I think one must be brave where fashion is concern . And I am really glad to tell you that these days , young fashionistas just go for it hot or cold irregardless.

The general rule to wearing boots is the longer the skirt the higher the boots. I say generally because the bootie transgresses both long and short issue. I also believe sometimes if the combination is right , one should throw the rule book out the window. Boots because it originates as a reason to protect against the cold naturally look best when worn with tights unless you are Jessica Simpson than you just wear it with bikini top, cut off shorts and a cowboy hat and of course cowboy boots and make sure you are washing a Mustang and be dancing around it…

Let’s start from the bottom of the foot, a bootie , as mentioned earlier can be worn with both long and short skirts , flare or fitted skirt and likewise with pants. It can even look quite formal if the colour combination is right.

Mid calf to ankle boots are usually worn with  anything that is above the knees, but also look good tucked into pants of jeans.

Knee high boots are best  worn under skirts that covers the knees or tucked into slim pants or jeans. My new hairdresser wore her brown tanned leather boots with a  knee length summer shift dress and I thought she look so cool, chewing her gum as she cut my hair …

Thigh high boots on the extreme is  however a contradiction like the bootie as it is worn with usually short shorts or short skirts. It is also quite sexy  to just wear it with tights and  a top… or like J.Lo when she performed at 2007 American Idol to introduce her Spanish album and single , a long flowy caftan, split high at the sides and tights tucked in thigh high boots and with the light shining on her and fake  wind blowing at  her and …it was fiery…tough and soft at the same time.

I usually prefer boots that look more refined with heels and stilettoes with polish leather, but these days they have  ‘em flat , wedge heels and even with platform heels, take your pick. D&G featured boots that look like wellingtons with heels in orange color and they paired them with knee length tartan skirt and cardigan twinsets. And with that , a previously school marmish look has been  given a new twist…

So I know , we have summerlike weather all year round and it is still summer but all the fall fashion previews have made my winter soul nolstagic…so I guess I just have to take out my boots and give them a good airing…

Do you like boots too? What holds you back if any about buying a pair?

  1. I love BOOTS ! And I love to wear mine in KL. If there’s something to hold me back from buying, that will be the way people staring at me when they see me in boots in such a hot weather ! But, I don’t mind wearing it as long as I looked chic and comfortable in my pair of boots !

  2. Way to go girl….:-)lols. That’s what I mean , you are a girl after my own heart…

  3. I love boots because they make me look so cool and chic. However, the only thing that puts me back at times is how people stare at me as if I came from some outer space. They just cannot accept that I can wear boots in such a hot country like Malaysia. But still, I wear them when I need to get a boost to my outfit.

  4. Next time we wear the boots we should graciously accept that the stares becos it possibly mean that they salute our taste and bravery.. yeeee…haaaawww:-)lols.
