Adventuresome Bachelorette Parties

How many times have you attended a hen party or bachelorette party or hen’s night with yet anticipation of an exciting male striptease act and yet again(yawn) because once more , you were subjected to the same act of male stripping and some grinding and more gyrating of a buffed up male body?.Okay, the sight of a well-oiled, tanned stripper can be quite exciting and get a girl’s heart thumping but, let’s face it, most of the acts in Kuala Lumpur aren’t quite Chippendale quality are they, enthusiastic and professionals though they may be.

A friend told me of a hen party she went to, where the organizer had rented a male striptease act at RM800 for an hour’s act, which ended up with the male stripper chasing twenty “virginal” girls around the bed of the hotel room and him rebuking them for not making the most of his “services?” By the way, there is a ‘no touching allowed’ rule when it comes to this type of acts worldwide, for obvious safety reasons. Most times, they just play games like making the bride eat bananas or something silly. And let’s face it, in Malaysia , most of us are quite shy about being overtly curious about sex. No, we are not going to talk about sex this issue, but more about types of bachelorette parties that are more self-experiential, adventurous, perhaps a tad wacky and definitely off the beaten track.

It all started when, I got invited by a gym friend Melati, to attend her friend’s bachelorette party. At first I was a bit hesitant, feels like you have been to one you have been to all. But I was most impressed and the true essence of bachelorette parties hit me when I did go. It isn’t just another excuse for a bunch of friends to get drunk and the bride to receive more sexy lingerie (some of which she may never ever wear even or maybe especially in front of her husband) or wear sashes with ?°horny hen?± emblazoned across her chest.

But it really is about friendship, because it is about the time and trouble that your friends go through to celebrate the end of your single-hood and welcome another phase of your life. It is also about hope; a journey of life together that as each goes through each phase of life, the message is that it only further cements the strength and the ride of life together in friendship.

Melati had organized an ATV adventure ride right here in the Klang Valley , at the Forest Reserve of Kemensah (3km down from Zoo Negara). It started with a sweet invite card with instructions on the

colour theme (pink in this instance) and since hen nights are to honour the bride-to-be and she must in some fashion be dressed so that she is recognized as such. Then the day came; we went to the ATV Malaysia site, where the owner Mas (a Malaysian Guinness record holder for longest standing motorbike ride from the North to the South of the Malaysian border) operates with his very cool ATVs. The bride-to-be was dressed up in a shiny encrusted yet furry tiara and a pink sash that said “Bride-2-Be” Everyone else was in something pink.

Before we took off, we were given some brief but very important riding lessons. I thought easy stuff, now haven’t I been riding a 90cc Kawasaki since I was seventeen, how difficult can a four wheel giant toy car be? Mechanism wise much simpler, after all it is just throttle start and accelerate, but this is a heavy duty machine and so one has to respect it as such and then it becomes easy, for instance, no putting leg down to support, like riding a two wheel motorbike. Bad, bad mistake. This machine is stable enough on its own, it has four wheels. For the control issue-challenged (like yours truly) it takes some getting used to. To let go and totally trust that this machine will take you through all terrains: mud puddles and uphill climbs, potholes and go down narrow steep slopes without toppling over takes some major emotional letting go. But once you do, the rush of adrenalin is incredible. The ride then becomes very enjoyable, you still play a very big part in the steering of direction that this vehicle is going, but you ride through the bumps together and this baby just won’t let you down. The only time you lose control (like steering with one hand while trying to kill a leech from sucking the life blood from your thigh) is when you let go and don’t do your part?-Hmmm, come to think of it, kind of like a marriage isn’t it?

The ride takes about an hour to and fro the water fall from the ATV campsite. There are chalets to be rented at the campsite, by the way. Two steep slopes uphill through narrow trails and a 10 minute trek to reach a beautiful bamboo clearing and voila! a small waterfall to rest and relax before the ride back. This is part of the Orang Asli (indigenous) settlement for the Selangor Forest Reserve. We had a packed sandwich lunch and the whole trip cost us RM100. There are various other packages offered, log on to www.atvmalaysia.com for more details.

The Bachelorettes!!

The owners, Mas and his wife started the business a year ago after an adventure holiday in New Zealand . They have six ATVs at the moment but hope to increase the numbers soon as they are getting popular. Lots of production companies like DIGI rent their ATVs. They are currently the only adventure trail ATV operator, where most ATVs are usually rented out for beach rides only. So check them out! As we left, a party of twenty arrived for their own adventure.

I then did some research on types of adventures that can be fun for all who attend, those willing to brave it out and when the bride is sporting enough, that is. Our next suggestion is belly dancing . Belly dancing is a great dance at once sensual and healthy as it strengthens your core muscles, promotes healthy body image and allows you to get in touch with your more seductive and feminine side. In the olden days, belly dancing was taught by mothers to their daughters to prepare them for their married lives. This is a dance that shows you how to maximise the length and beauty of your body while drawing attention to the most sensual parts of the female body: the movements in the abdominals and the hips.

We decided that a belly dancing class at the Le Meridien at RM48++ for an hour’s class including afternoon tea of Middle Eastern sweets in the romantic setting of the Al-Nafourah restaurant is definitely worth its weight in gold in this respect. Conducted by Nancy Bakshy , it is a class steeped in laughter and sensibilities about women and their sensuous moves. Nancy has a great sense of humour and what better and fun way to learn. A sure winner, guaranteed to break the bride to be out of her inhibitions and “prepare” her for the art of seduction. One can also sign up for four (4) lessons at RM118. The great thing about this belly dancing class versus others at a studio is the setting. The ambiance of the restaurant (the dance lesson is conducted in a private room, right next to the restaurant) where you can adjourn for tea afterwards for some great yakkety yak and even more fun and games later if desired. It is a sure winner that can be fun for girlfriends to do together.
