Capture Memories

One of the things that is so important are the memories of the big day. After ALL that preparation trying to make the day go well and smoothly and not forgetting trying to make it look perfect, you just cannot have it without a wedding photographer.
Traditional Malaysians used to hire a photographer from a studio to take pictures in the studio, during the reception and the actual exchanging of vows. Photographers like this do not pay attention to meticulous details throughout the wedding and only take photos of the bride and groom. Of course, they are the main attraction of the day, but 10 years down the road, you will want to remember the type of flowers you wore on your head or the dress your mother wore during reception and also the detail on your wedding cake. Now, who takes those types of pictures? A photojournalist, of course.
A photojournalist takes pictures of every little event and object surrounding the wedding every moment of the day. The photographer might have an apprentice to help him/her capture more incidents and objects that are significant to the wedding day and most importantly to you!
One thing for sure is to make sure that your photographer is one that is suitable and can deliver the photos that you want from your wedding. There are many things that you must consider before hiring a wedding photographer. Here are some of the things:
Experience
Make sure that the person taking your wedding photos is experienced. Since we live in Malaysia , there are many kinds of weddings like the Chinese wedding or the Malay wedding. Make sure that the photographer is an expert in the type of wedding that you are going to have. This is important because if the photographer has not taken pictures in a particular wedding before, he might not know the usual traditions or customs of the wedding and might not be able to capture some important moments. Also, more experience in photography is useful as they know how to take a proper picture of the day.

Photographic style
What kind of photos do you want? Some photojournalists take pictures digitally so that they can enhance it, and some of them, on film. There are also different methods of capturing a picture. Like for example, they might take some pictures in black and white and some in colour. Consult the photographer beforehand to make sure that there is no confusion.

Personality
Know your photographer. Make sure that you and your photographer get along well. This is particularly important because sometimes there can be conflict in personality and you might end up in a misunderstanding. Also, ask the photographer if he or she is personally coming on that day, or if someone else has been assigned for the wedding.

Cost and Price
The cost of the whole package should be considered beforehand. Make sure you know about the fees involved. This includes the deposit, the fees for the photographer and also the cost to develop the photos. You should also seek more information regarding the pricing package. Usually wedding photographers offer the whole deal from taking photos, to developing and also publishing it online for family and friends to view them. Also, make sure that you ask any other questions concerning the process of the day. Will the photographer be charging any extra fee for the photography session? After all the discussion on the fees, make sure that there is a contract written out and you know what you’re getting out of the package. This easily avoids confusion after the wedding.
Equipment
The photographer must tell you what kind of equipment he is going to use. Photographers generally need to set up some kind of lighting or tripod for them to capture photos better. So ask the photographer if he or she will be needing space for the equipment during the wedding. Also make arrangements in advance, so that your wedding day will be going smoothly without any confusion whether or not the lighting is blocking anyone’s view when you say “I do”.

Studios?
Ask your photographer if he is willing to take on a photo shoot in either a studio or a place that you like. Some couples like to take pictures of themselves all made up in a different locations and in different outfits. So enquire if the package includes the studio sessions.
Who to choose?
Ask around and do your research on who you like best. Each couple has their own preferences on how they want their day to be captured. It is best to ask people you know about the styles and photos of the photographer. If that is not possible, go to wedding forums and websites that discuss works of others. Of course, the more famous the photographer, the more praise he or she gets. Do not be fooled by the praise, just make sure that you have seen the photos of the photographers and choose what you like and are comfortable to work with.
