The Eye on Malaysia

In conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2007, the Malaysian government went all out promoting Malaysia and brought back a huge present for us. The Eye On Malaysia. When the Eye on Malaysia first started, there was all the hype about it going on. People from all over Malaysia traveled to Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur to get a glimpse of the “eye”. Avid amateur and professional photographers joined the bandwagon taking pictures of the pretty ferris wheel.

Popularized by the London Eye, these huge merry-go-rounds are an eye candy for children of all ages (yes, including the adults). In this part of the world (Malaysia of course!), we never had such big ferris wheel in the middle of the town. Compared to the London Eye, the Eye on Malaysia is much smaller and takes a shorter time to finish one round around the wheel.
Standing at 60 metres above the Titiwangsa Lake, the Eye on Malaysia is the largest portable wheel in the world. Being Malaysians, of course, we have to have the first in everything. This wheel is the first ever portable ferris wheel on a lake. Now, is that an achievement or what?

When on the lake, take a look at stunning views of the Kuala Lumpur from all sides of the gondola. From the highest point, you can see Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) and also a marvelous view of the Istana Budaya. Remember to bring a camera to take a snap at the view. Make sure to go on a fair day, if not you would not be able to see anything on a cloudy day.
The wheel has about 42 gondolas, all air conditioned. One gondola fits abut 8 passengers and costs RM15 per adult. So if you want a private gondola all by yourself, bring 7 of your friends and book a private gondola which will cost you about RM100. If you have extra cash to spare, pay RM200 for a VIP gondola, where you can have leather seats, a plasma TV with a DVD player, a mobile phone and a mini fridge. There are also gondolas specially designed for wheelchair-bound and handicapped visitors.
Besides the Eye on Malaysia, in conjunction with VMY 2007, the place also offers visitors to play water sports and watch International Water Sky Spectacular shows that run every night at 9pm.

At emmagem, we think the Eye on Malaysia is just an experience you must do once in your lifetime, not anymore. It has nothing special to it and it serves it purpose as any ferris wheel you go on in fun fairs. The only nice thing to do there is to take pretty, artistic photographs and watch the spectacular laser show at night. All in all, with good company, the night spent at Titiwangsa was well worth it.
