Bargain Hunting

One of the things that you can do to make your way to become a millionaire is to buy bargain items. Think about all the money you can save by buying a fairly good condition item for the fraction of the price. Some items that are sold in second hand stores are really cheap and it is probably not worn at all.

Traditionally, you can get second hand goodies in flea markets but in Malaysia, street vendors has already spoilt the name. Flea Markets are usually for normal people from homes setting up stalls to sell their unwanted goodies, much like a garage sale. Flea Markets are also for budding craft or jewellery makers to show off their stuff and sell their hand made items. Sadly, Flea Markets in the Klang Valley are filled with small stalls selling brand new items, which are quite expansive, I must say.

These type of Flea Markets can be found in The Curve’s Sunday Market. The market starts at 10am till 8pm. The so called “flea market” is a place for sellers to sell really expansive jewelleries and clothes with exorbitant prices. Of course when you buy a new piece of clothing, you have to try them. In flea markets, theres no place to try on clothes. I heard from a friend that she tried on clothes from the flea market in the bathroom. Now, with the hot sun, sweat will be pouring and the bathroom stench will be sticking on the clothes. How hygienic is that? Other than that, the Curve’s flea market is not all that bad. They do have a fair share of cheaper goodies and trendy clothes. There are also cheap statement shirts that can be bought for RM10.

Another more authentic flea market would be Amcorp Mall in Petaling Jaya. Amcorp Mall has been established as a flea market ever since a few years ago. The items sold there are much more like a real flea market as you can see people selling old vinyl records, cassettes and other old Coca-Cola collectibles. They also have other items such as earrings, clothes, books, trinkets, gifts, and all other items that are very cheap. I once got 2 books for RM5! The items there are not all that nice, you just have to have a good eye and look for the perfect clothing piece for you.

Other places that you can buy second hand items are:

  1. Plaza Mont Kiara
  2. SPCA Jumble Sales
  3. Second Charm, TTDI
  4. Scoop, KL

For more information on Bargain Shopping, check out the Soul Doctor who is an avid fan of vintage second hand shopping. She gets most of her fashionable clothings from flea markets and garage sales. She listed down places to visit and what is good in there.

Of course, going to warehouse sales and catching the latest sale in town is also another way you can save tons of money. Bookmark Offerstation.com for all your sale notifications. Offer Station is a website dedicated to telling consumers where are the latest sales, promotions and also finding gift vouchers. Every now and then, there will be an advertisement on newspaper about a warehouse sale. Some kind people at Promotions and Sales in Malaysia and Shopping & Sales will be cutting that advertisement out, scanning it and posting it on the internet for everyone to enjoy.

Now, start bargain hunting and get the cheapest deal in town so that you can show it off to your mates.
