Dressing for V-Day: Up to the challenge?
The usual scenario would be you waiting for your date to pick you up, checking yourself out in the mirror and wondering for the hundredth time if you look good. Honestly, it’s what we tend to do every time we walk out the door, but on a Valentine’s Day, it probably seems that bit more difficult.
If this special day entails dinner in a posh restaurant with chances of your date outdoing himself with a nice outfit, you’d most likely want to wear something special too. A dress is always a good option. However, be careful to pick it well. Black is classy and sexy while colours are flirty and girlish. If you decide to go with red though, make sure it’s one that’s well cut and preferably not with any form of body hugging lycra. You want to look more electrifying and less Elektra! Also, chances of every piece of decoration being red are high and looking like part of the décor is never good.
The next question is how much skin should there be on display? A bit of skin is definitely sexy though too much may just seem over eager. A bare décolletage or a low back is enticing. Try to follow the one at a time rule. Pick one part to show off and cover the rest. They see just enough but will definitely want more! Also pick accessories to accentuate the part you’ve picked to show off. Chunky earrings with a low neck looks good, so does a long chain. The best way to highlight bare legs is a pair of knockout heels. Let them be as high as you could possibly walk in. This is when comfort takes a back seat and vanity prevails.
Of course you have to dress according to the occasion. If you have more laidback plans, a dress with high heels may seem excessive. So be sure to know beforehand what the plans are to be able to plan your outfit. Hence, if like me you are a fashion addict, spontaneity on an important day is such a pain! However, jeans and a dress top can look just as good. Whatever you’re doing this Valentines, don’t let dressing for it stress you out. It’s all about enjoying it with a special person or people. It’s just always more fun looking good while doing it.
