Marley & Me
By: Lea S.Marley & Me by John Grogan
If you love dogs, or have a dog of your own, then this book about the “life and love with the world’s worst dog” will surely make your day. Marley & Me is an account inspired by real-life experiences shared between the author, John Grogan, and his Labrador retriever named Marley. This is a story about the happy and hair-pulling moments in living with a dog. But most importantly, this is a story about the unconditional love that a four-legged friend has to offer. can offer you through good and bad times. Newlyweds John and Jenny decided to spice their lives up by getting a dog.
Little did they know, their new pet was going to be everything but calm and quiet. Marley destroyed many things at home – a four-legged stool turned three-legged, and countless screen doors had to be replaced. He was guilty for eating chess pieces, paper clips and even Jenny’s eighteen-karat gold necklace. Plus, just when they thought sending him to obedience school would teach him a thing or two, he was expelled.
Despite these, Marley was a symbol of undying love and loyalty. When Jenny suffered a miscarriage, the usually rambunctious Labrador stood still for a long time, allowing Jenny to hold him while she cried. When the couple brought their first born home, Marley was there to share the excitement (actually, he was more interested in sniffing the baby’s diapers!) and soon, became little Patrick’s new best friend.
Read on and you will discover that this obedience-school dropout was more than just a pet. Regardless of the troubles that he had caused, Marley brought great joy to the family and I am sure, through this memoir, he will bring joy to you too. And, thanks to Marley, I now appreciate my Jack Russell Terrier, which is similar to Marley in many ways, even more.
All in all, this tribute to the hyper Labrador will take you on a journey through life – from puppyhood to adulthood. It will expose you to the positive changes that a canine companion can bring, and help you understand why dogs truly are men’s best friends. Finally, if you are going to give this book a try, then I have one advice for you: make sure that you have a box of tissue with you while reading the last few chapters because they are going to make you weep.
