The Perfect Bag
By: anne HHave you been carrying the same bag with every outfit? Update your looks and even look slimmer (yes, it’s possible) with the right bag.
The classic handbagGet it in black and beige to match any day outfit. Choose a versatile one that will take you from the office to the mall. The strap should reach about 2 inches from your underarm. Avoid longer straps as they can look very 80s as well as be an easy target for snatch thieves. The bag itself should be of medium size as one too small makes it formal and one too big is unprofessional.
• The ToteThis is the large bags that we use for the gym or for travelling. These straps should also be short. If you are tall or of bigger built, you can carry it on your shoulder. However, petite women should avoid carrying such a large bag on her shoulders, as it could look rather comical. If you have to carry a tote, carry it with your hands or on the elbow.
• The ShopperThis is usually the shape of the classic handbag but with softer materials such as suede. It could also have playful details like tassels, buckles or prints. It should look casual enough for your weekend outfits. It should also be big enough to store bits and pieces of your shopping as well as lend a casual feel to your look.

• The Clutch
This is a timeless bag that will never fail you for the evening. They are however inappropriate for the day. If you’re wearing a formal dress, you can go with the smallest of clutches. Experiment with beads and sequins for glamour. If it’s a semi formal dress code, try slightly longer clutches. Make your clutch the ultimate accessory by investing in bright and uniquely patterned ones. Hold your clutch from the bottom, placing your hands in the middle to show it off while giving a demure look to your outfit.
• The Evening BagFor those who are uncomfortable with having to hold your bag for the evening, try the wrist held or shoulder alternatives. These should be small. You’re not meant to have more than your lipstick and some money with you. They should also be of a delicate material and have intricate work on it. They should preferably have some shine on it to go with your evening wear.
• The Short Strap BagsMany designer labels such as Celine and Louis Vuitton have bags with short straps. They’re meant to be hand held or carried on your elbow. Don’t try and carry them on your shoulders as they’ll make you look stiff and unflattering. They would also make you look larger as it is hidden under your arm making the rest of you look big in comparison.
• BackpacksUnless you’re 12 or going hiking, forget about them.
