If you have opened enough fashion magazines or have been reading Anne H.’s previous issues, you will be hard put not to notice that layering and leggings are in… but really how practical is it all these layering and leggings for the workplace.

emmagem decided to explore the practicality of these two fashion statements:

1. Layering with short cape jackets - these days we are wearing short capelike jackets over our t-shirts, tank tops and even over dresses. Worn over a formal skirt or dress or dress pants, it can look quite smart for the office. Otherwise wear it over a pair of jeans or short mini skirt for a casual feel.
2. Layering with skirt and tights/pants - wear a short skirt and wear it over a pair of skinny pants. Great for being in the in and yet hiding the unnecessary bulges. It can be very flattering, going for both formal and even casual affairs. The top can be layered with short jackets like capes or uniform like jackets. How formal it is will depend on the color and whether you are using smart or casual pieces to come up with the ensemble.
3. Layering with short dress and tights/slim pants - Fantastic for recycling your little LBDs (little black dress), gives it a whole new look for dinners with friends, hot dates and even a company function or two. If worn with tights, wear knee length or calf lengths ones for a fashion statement and pair with wedges on the feet.
4. Layering with voluminous versus tights - This season, layers of long cardigans and sweaters are encouraged over leggings .Alternatively in our weather to wear a long shirt dress or trenchcoat like jacket, belted at the waist for the voluminous look and worn over knee length legging for a smart office look.
5. Layering with shirts and dress - The next option of layering is to wear a shirt much like a jacket and layer over a dress. You can have it belted or knotted. You can do the same look with a cardigan just cinch it at the waist with this season’s wide belt for a smart office look.
6. Shorts with leggings -This seasons shorts are above knees and velvet is in, tweed is in and satin is in… wear with shiny tights for a party or wear with matching dark tights for a casual work environment.
