Dressing for Dates

How do you decide what to wear on those first few crucial dates? Are you the type that has a perfect foolproof date outfit or the type that spends ages trying to come up with the right outfit? I’m definitely the latter. I spend ages trying to achieve the “look.” I feel certain outfits convey certain things about people; hence choosing what I want my outfit to say about me is the most taxing.

The most important thing is to know your venue. If it’s dinner in a nice restaurant, glam it up by all means. If it is a dress down place though, you don’t want you or your date feeling uncomfortable at Aunties gawking at the plunging neckline of your mini dress. The next is choosing the vibe you’d like to give off on your date. If you’d like it to be a hot night for him, go sexy. This doesn’t have to mean too much skin on show, as there’s a fine line between sexy and slutty. Something figure enhancing, high heels and sexy hair would do the trick. This is bound to have him captivated by you. The only worry is that he might be intimidated by your bombshell status and act out of his usual character. You’d also probably find it slightly difficult keeping the balance between normal laugh with mouth wide open self and cool, sexy babe self.

If you want your date to be light and comfortable, go for a semi-casual look. This sets a more casual ambience and will make it easier for both of you to lighten up. Jeans is always a good option. Long, dark ones are better. Wear them with a feminine top and great jewellery. Carry a small bag or clutch as this will take you from dinner to a possible coffee or drink after. Hair should be simple up or tousled own. A chignon with tons of pins, glitter or hairspray will just make you look OTT and uptight.

Being semi-casual on the first date and bombshell on a next one is probably the best option. This way he knows you have a relaxed, down to earth attitude but keeps him interested and intrigued when he sees you looking sexy. Being overtly sexy on the first date might just scare him away and not have the chance to see the real you. Just be comfortable. It should be not be so slouchy as you should feel like you’re looking gorgeous and thus exude confidence. Yet, it shouldn’t be something that needs constant adjusting or requiring you to sit like a ballerina all night. Don’t forget to dress whatever you’re wearing with lots of smiling and eye contact and enjoy the company.
