Less Money, Less Style?

By: anne H

It’s a Sunday afternoon and you walk around KL malls with a dejected feeling. You think with a sigh, no money no fashion. Wrong! What middle income Malaysian women are actually missing is shopping training.

KL is a shopping haven and true fashionistas scour places like Sungei Wang, Petaling Street and those little shops people just don’t bother with.

As of 2006, EMMA is here to bring the fashion Queen out of all Malaysian women. We see celebs look amazing. We’ve seen SJP in Sex and the City revolutionise fashion. It’s about time we put our own spin on things! Here are some tips on looking fantastic in 2006.

1. Look, Look, Look.

Every shop has something to offer. You might not necessarily find an entire outfit but there might just be that one thing that may jazz an old outfit up.

2. Work it.

Don’t underestimate the supermodel in you. Love what you’re wearing and flaunt it. Style is personal. Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Gwen Stefani are fashion maestros because of their ability to put their own looks together.

3. Over and Beyond.

Train your eyes to pick out pieces nobody else would. Think of the various looks that may go with it. The mannequin may look amazing but not everyone can blow that much money. So pick an item and work with it. You’d be surprised at the amount of different looks you could get with one good piece.

4. Something old, something new.

How many times have you thought you had nothing to wear? Most women forget all they need is a brooch or a gorgeous shoe to remake those old looks. Stop looking at your clothes in terms of outfits. Challenge yourself to think of them as individuals that need a new pairing.

5. Mirror, Mirror.

All you need to trust is yourself. So what if you’ve not seen someone else wear a similar style? That’s what makes you. Japan and Hong Kong are known for their fashionable women. They are not ‘safe-dressers.’ That’s what makes fashion. It’s about time for KL to have confident, beautiful and fashionable individuals!
